Pep Guardiola turned Philipp Lahm into a midfielder and won a title by March. The false fullback has since become elite football's favourite disguise: a defender on the team sheet, a pivot in possession.

Manchester City lost a third of the league games Rodri missed between 2019 and 2024. The defensive midfielder is the most undervalued player on the pitch, and Rodri's absence plus Zubimendi's title-winning screen prove the number 6 quietly decides which teams win and which collapse.
